Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the investment of IBEX Global in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector locally is a demonstration of confidence in Jamaica as a ‘right fit’ destination for its operations.
Addressing a ceremony to officially open the company’s offices in the Portmore Pines Plaza in Portmore, St. Catherine, on October 27, Mr. Holness said the Government stands ready to assist the company to increase its employment capacity and expand across the island.
He expressed gratitude for the investment in Portmore, one of the country’s fastest-growing communities.
IBEX Global launched operations at the location in July and currently has 550 employees, with a plan to increase that cohort to 1,000 when the facility is fully built out.
“There is compelling evidence that a new economic era has begun for Jamaica and we firmly believe that the business process outsourcing sector is one of the critical growth areas for sustainability. This sector has been given priority by the Government, and continuity to develop the sector sends a positive signal to investors that their investments will be supported for the long term,” the Prime Minister said.
He said Jamaica is steadily building its reputation as not just a tourist destination, but also a top destination for business.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IBEX Global, Robert Dechant, said Jamaica was chosen as a destination for its operations due to the educational qualities of the people, the friendly personalities and the workforce’s passion for success.
He noted that, so far, the company’s Portmore Pines location is performing in the top percentile of its locations globally.
The CEO gave a commitment to expand its operations in the country to employ as many as 5,000 persons over the next few years.
Mr. Dechant also hailed Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) for its support in making the move to Jamaica.
For her part, JAMPRO President, Dianne Edwards, expressed excitement for the addition of IBEX Global to the local sector, for the contribution to employment as well as the commitment to providing a growth opportunity for youth in Portmore.
The Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) also partnered with the BPO company, providing more than $5 million to build out the facility in Portmore. The bank has given a total of $56 million in loans for the buildout of BPO space.
The new Portmore Pines site offers a full complement of BPO services, such as customer care, email, chat and back office support.
IBEX Global is headquartered in Washington, DC and delivers onshore, near-shore and offshore business process outsourcing solutions in seven countries across 20 call centres. IBEX has been in Jamaica since January 2015.
