The Full Story
National Water Commission (NWC) Acting President, Mr. Mark Barnett, today (August 10, 2015) announced new water supply restrictions for Corporate Area customers served by the Hope and Mona Water
Supply Systems.
At a press conference called immediately following a weekly drought management review meeting this morning, Mr. Barnett announced that the Commission is forced to further restrict the supply of water to many of the areas served by the Hope and Mona Water Supply Systems to every third day instead of the current alternating day supply. This means that customers who receive water on Wednesday would next be supplied on Saturday, and those who receive on Thursday would next receive on Sunday, and so on.
The NWC Acting President explained that despite some additional water being brought into the Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA) from newly re-commissioned wells, the continued severe decline in inflows from
the Hope River and the Yallahs Pipeline have forced the decision. He explained further that while the supply experience of customers will vary depending on a number of variables, every effort is being made
by the NWC to troubleshoot identified problem areas. The increased restrictions will take effect beginning on Wednesday, August 12, 2015.
The areas to be affected include: Mona, Mona Heights, Mountain View, Old Hope Road, New Kingston, Liguanea, August Town, Hope Flats, Papine, Gordon Town, Hope Road, Hope Pastures and environs.
