The Ministry of Health is to receive $1.059 billion in budgetary support from the National Health Fund (NHF).
This is contained in the 2017-18 Estimates of Expenditure now before the House of Representatives for its consideration.
The objective is to provide support for improved service delivery in the public health system.
To this end, the funds will be used for the procurement of a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS); prepare designs for the construction of four polyclinics, vector control support and rehabilitation of health care facilities.
A portion of the allocation will also be used to purchase a Linear Accelerator, which is a device most commonly used for external beam radiation treatment for patients with cancer.
It is used to treat all parts and organs of the body, delivering high-energy X-rays to the region of the patient’s tumour.
