Foreign Affairs Minister takes part in Jamaica 50 Activities in Canada

Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Senator the Hon. A.J. Nicholson, is currently in Canada where he is meeting with government and private sector officials.

Speaking at Wednesday’s (March 21) Jamaica House media briefing, at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, told journalists that during his visit to Canada, between March 21 and 24, Senator Nicholson will be engaged in several activities and discussions pertaining to the Jamaican Diaspora, and the country’s 50th Independence anniversary celebrations this year.

These, she informed, include his participation in the formal launch of the “Jamaica 50 in Canada” activities, scheduled for on March 22.

“It (visit) will also give him an opportunity for discussions with the Canadian government with a view to enhancing our bilateral co-operation, particularly in relation to development assistance and technical co-operation,” the Information Minister further noted.

She said Senator Nicholson had expressed the hope that the discussions would afford the opportunity to promote Jamaica within the Canadian business community, “taking into consideration the significant role that Scotiabank and Jamaican private sector companies are playing in the launch of the wider Jamaica 50 celebrations."
