The Ministry of Youth and Culture congratulates Miguel ‘Steppa’ Williams on being named the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Worker of the Year for the Caribbean and the Americas Region at the recently staged Commonwealth Youth Worker Awards in London, England.

Williams served as Senior Programme Development Specialist in the Ministry of Youth and Culture from 2006-2015, during which time, he remained committed to empowering young people to become their best selves irrespective of their circumstances.

“We are extremely proud of the outstanding work that he has done and continues to do with youth in Jamaica and for that we congratulate him on being named the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Worker of the Year. He has made immense contribution through innovative and inspirational initiatives in ensuring that this cohort is motivated and empowered,” said the Minister of Youth and Culture, the Honourable Lisa Hanna.

The Commonwealth Youth Worker of the Year Award aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding youth workers across the 53 countries of the commonwealth. Miguel ‘Steppa’ Williams was one of two Jamaicans shortlisted for the regional award, and one of only three in the Caribbean.

The Minister said his recognition comes at a time when the Ministry of Youth and Culture is celebrating youth and connecting them with opportunities that will aid in their personal growth and development. She also added that his commitment to the cause of providing guidance to at risk youth is deserving of such a prestigious award and notable recognition.
