Cabinet Approves Land Banking for Trelawny/St James Housing

The Ministry of Water and Housing was given approval by Cabinet recently for the acquisition of lands to develop housing estates in Trelawny and St. James and to provide security of tenure for the Crescent All Age School in St. Catherine.
This was announced by Minister with responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz, at the post cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House today, March 17.
The acquisitions on the North Coast are a proactive move by the Ministry to bank lands anticipating a demand for housing to meet the demands associated with the development of the port of Falmouth.
The lands are Lots One and Two, part of Greenwich Park, Hague and Clifton in Trelawny for $20.5 million; and also 11.94 hectares in Salt Spring, St James, for $7.37 million.
Cabinet approved $15.5 million to acquire lands at Angels Pen, St Catherine to secure the occupancy of the Crescent All Age School, and others. The property of more than 13 acres is occupied by the school and several families. The acquisition will allow the ministry to upgrade the infrastructure and apply for subdivision approval from the St. Catherine Parish Council after which the occupants will be legalized.
