AFJ Ball to Benefit Health and Education Programmes in Jamaica

The American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ), will hold its 5th annual fundraising ball in Florida, in the United States of America (USA),on May 16, with the proceeds to go towards education, health care and human development programmes in the island.
Philanthropist and businesswoman Michele Rollins, will be the special honouree at the event, which will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove in Miami.
She will be presented with the 2009 International Humanitarian Award for her charity work and significant contributions to the tourism industry.
AFJ’s annual Peacock Ball, aims to raise funds to assist the development needs of Jamaica. In addition to offering an elegant evening of dining and high quality entertainment, there will be an auction of items ranging from luxurious vacation packages to fine jewelry and artwork.
Ms. Rollins is Chairman of Rollins Jamaica Limited, the holding company for Rose Hall Limited, which includes the Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort. She also chairs several advisory boards in the areas of education and culture.
Past AFJ honourees include Founder of Missionaries of the Poor, Father Richard Ho Lung; Phillip Gore of Gore Developments and Tennis Jamaica; Tony Hart of Hart Investments; Food for the Poor; Entertainment Mogul and Island Outpost founder, Chris Blackwell; Chairman of the Gleaner Company, Oliver Clarke; Founder of St. Patrick’s Foundation, Monsignor Richard Albert; and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
Since its inception in 1982, the AFJ has raised more than US$11 million for education, healthcare and economic development programmes in Jamaica.
