The Full Story

An additional 700 police personnel will be deployed across the island for the Christmas season to improve safety and security.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations, Clifford Blake, said that persons will be taken from offices, desk duties and from the National Police College of Jamaica and deployed to the streets.

“While these desk jobs are important, we have to prioritise our focus for this time of year [which is] crime reduction, public safety and reassurance,” DCP Blake explained.

The Deputy Commissioner was speaking today (December 10) at the annual Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Yuletide season press briefing held at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Old Hope Road.

In addition, the JCF will be relying on the full support of its counterparts in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

JDF personnel will be deployed to the streets with particular focus placed on public safety, crime, and traffic and vending control.

“While the police execute these functions, it is important that the public take the necessary precautions to lessen their exposure to the possibility of becoming victims of criminality,” DCP Blake cautioned.
