Youth Information Centre to be Built in Portland

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture has signed a $6.6 million contract with Eagle Construction Company for the establishment of a youth information centre in Portland.
The contract, which was signed on May 13 at the Ministry’s Caenwood complex in Kingston, will see the conversion of the Georgian-style building at the railway station in West Palm Avenue into a multifaceted facility, geared towards information dissemination and youth empowerment.
Funding for the project is being provided by the Education Ministry and the United Nations Children Fund, with the former providing furniture and equipment for the centre. Work is set to begin within the next three weeks and will last for three to five months.
