Young People Give Facelift to St. James Infirmary

Representatives of three youth groups in Montego Bay recently came together to give a facelift to the St. James Infirmary and donate food packages and other necessities to the elderly residents.
The young people from the St. James Junior Council, the Montego Bay High School Key Club, and the Montego Bay Community College’s Circle-K Club, cleaned the grounds, painted the infirmary’s washrooms and the female wards, and groomed a number of the male and female residents.
They also presented food items, toiletries, cleaning products and equipment to the facility.
“We collaborated today to help the less fortunate of our parish and to assist the Parish Council in effecting positive change to the image of the Infirmary,” said Junior Mayor, Jerome Johnson, at a brief ceremony before the start of the workday.
“We also saw it fit to bring along some needed items of food and other necessities, which we are sure will help to cushion some of the immediate needs of the elderly residents in the facility,” he added.
In accepting the gift items, Assistant Matron of the Infirmary, Jacqueline Wilson, expressed her appreciation to the young people for the kind gesture.
“I would like to commend you all for coming here and demonstrating such outpouring of love and concern for our elderly patrons of the home. Thank you all very much and I can assure you that the staff and the residents here appreciate what you have done, and will always remember this,” Ms. Wilson said.
Representatives of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), which was one of the sponsors of the project, were on hand to assist by cleaning and removing garbage from the compound.
