Jamaicans will be able to taste, see, feel and enjoy the country’s tourism product at the 2010 Experience Jamaica Fun Day and Exposition on Sunday, September 5, on the South Lawn of Devon House.
The event, which is being staged by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), as part of initiatives to encourage persons resident in Jamaica to vacation on the island, will feature a range of products, services and entertainment from the businesses that operate in the local tourist industry.
Speaking with JIS News, Deputy Director of Tourism, David Shields, pointed out that the event allows the tourism sectors, such as accommodation, attractions, eateries, shopping and transportation to showcase their offerings, deals, specials and the value-added components that they have put together for Jamaicans.
“We have positioned the event as a family day, where the family can come to Devon House and learn what is happening in the sector and experience some of what is available at the various sectors within the tourism industry,” Mr. Shields said.
The Deputy Director added that Sunday will be a full day of activities, entertainment and great food and will also “present the opportunity for Jamaicans to experience the renovated Devon House, which is one of our attractions in Kingston that we have been promoting.”
Mr. Shields pointed out that the event is a “win-win for Devon House,” as it will bring persons to the location and allow them to present the variety of options that is available to Jamaicans.
The Experience Jamaica programme, Mr. Shields informed, is aimed at heightening awareness about brand Jamaica, while allowing Jamaicans to “become knowledgeable of our product offering and more effective in sharing with friends and families at home or overseas.”
First introduced in 2009, the programme uses customer education and value added discount offerings to generate interest in, and use of the tourism facilities available on the island, including accommodation, attractions, transportation and shopping. This year there are more than 100 participating entities, with discounts ranging from five per cent to over 50 per cent.
The Fun Day will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
