Work to Begin Soon on Dualisation of Bogue Main Road

Construction work on the dualisation of the Bogue main road in Montego Bay should begin early in the next financial year, Manager of Communications and Customer Service at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw has reported.
Mr. Shaw told JIS News that concerns about gas and water pipelines and utility poles hindering the progress of the work along that roadway, was no longer an issue.
“In the case of the oil pipeline, that has been abandoned by the company (JPS), so it is no longer in use.no longer an issue. The utility poles that have to be relocated, we have identified; the water lines have been identified, and we are working with the utility companies with a view to having them (the pipelines) removed early, so that they won’t be an impediment to the work,” he emphasized.
Mr. Shaw pointed out that the scope of the work would include the dualisation of the roadway from the Fairfield crossing along the Bogue main road to the Reading intersection with Long Hill. “We have already shortlisted some companies in respect of the contract; we have already signed off on the Bill of Quantities, and so we are looking to go to tender very soon, with a view to making an award and having the contract signed early in the new financial year,” he said.
He explained that the work to be undertaken was not just to remedy the problems being experienced along the Bogue main road, but also to improve the entire corridor from Fairfield to Reading.
