Women Being Empowered to Take Charge of their Lives

Woman Incorporated (WOMAN INC.), the charity organisation that has been promoting the welfare of women in Jamaica for two decades, is concerned that Jamaican women are not proactive enough and are not exerting enough influence on society.
Speaking at the launch of the organisation’s 20th anniversary celebrations and WOMAN 2004 Trade Fair and Exhibition, Dundeen Ferguson, President of the organisation, said that women were critical to the success of the nation. She said that WOMAN INC. would continue to work to ensure that women were adequately prepared to handle the challenges they may face.
To this end, WOMAN INC. will be hosting a seminar entitled ‘Take Charge of Your Life’ on Friday, November 26 at the Hilton Kingston from8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. “The purpose of the seminar is to make the point that we should be proactive. It is very important for us to lead the way for our young people and to guide them,” added Patsy Mair, past president and public relations coordinator.
The seminar will focus on issues such as wellness, finance, sexuality and personal development. “Under the heading wellness, we are looking at the lifestyle changes that we need to make for long-term benefits – physical, mental and spiritual health,” Mrs. Mair told the audience.
Presenters for this interactive session are nutritionist, Patricia Thompson and Managing Director of the Shakti Yoga Centre, Sharon Feanny.
Joan Edwards, Financial Planning Services Project Coordinator at the Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) will speak on financial planning and will provide practical guidance on achieving financial goals.
The third session of the seminar will focus on responsible in sex.
Dr. Yitades Gebre, Executive Director of the National HIV/STI Control Programme, will address issues affecting young adults, while Dr. Faye Whitbourne, President of the Menopausal Society, will speak to the mid-life years and beyond.
The final session of the seminar will look at attractiveness at any age. Beverly Anderson-Manley, Organisational Development Practitioner and Broadcaster, will speak on grooming for the inner being, while Gaudia Chevannes-Aquart, Director of Nirvana Day Spa, will reveal secrets for making and maintaining the attractive outer body at any age.
Persons interested in participating in the seminar will be asked to contribute $3,500 and companies are being encouraged to sponsor staff members or 5th and 6th form students of high schools within St. Catherine and the corporate area.
