Windsor Heights Residents to receive Titles Next Year

June 9, 2005

The Full Story

Member of Parliament for South Central St. Catherine, Sharon Haye-Webster, has said that the survey of parcels of land in the Windsor Heights community in Central Village, St. Catherine, would be completed by year-end for handing over of titles in 2006.
The process, she said, would ensure security of tenure for close to 12,000 occupants, some of whom have lived in the community for close to 30 years. “We need to be able to improve their tenureship. all manner of professionals are in those communities and we need to ensure that they are formalized so they can have the kinds of services they need,” Mrs. Haye-Webster said, during her contribution to the 2005/06 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives yesterday (June 8).
Mrs. Haye-Webster said of the 53 communities in the constituency, only about 17 were developed housing schemes. “We have to be looking at moving them up to a community profile with the proper infrastructure,” she told the House.
Meanwhile, she said that for Spanish Town, discussions were ongoing for the designation of route taxi stopping points, which will be indicated to the travelling public through specific signposts. Mrs. Haye-Webster clarified that these spots would not be parking areas but would enable taxi operators to pick up passengers without being prosecuted.
“Stopping points will be introduced, not parking, but anyone waiting at such a sign will be able to be picked up by taxis without being prosecuted,” she said. The South Central St. Catherine Member of Parliament said discussions to see the implementation of the proposal was ongoing with the relevant players.
