Windsor Forest Primary Wins Reading Competition

Windsor Forest Primary School emerged winner of the recently held Reading and Mathematics competition among primary schools in Portland, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Port Antonio.
The competition, which was held at the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE), on April 2, was sponsored by the club in keeping with the commitment of Rotary International to implement programmes aimed at reducing illiteracy during the course of this year.
A total of 22 schools participated in the competition, with second place being awarded to Norwich Primary School and third place to Port Antonio Primary.
For winning the competition, Windsor Forest Primary School was awarded the Basil Benjie and Ray Howell trophies, along with a cash incentive, while Norwich Primary and Port Antonio Primary were presented with cash awards and school supplies.
Sylvia McKenzie, President of the Rotary Club of Port Antonio, told JIS News that the competition was just one of the projects the club would be undertaking in its contribution to the literacy campaign being conducted by Rotary International.
She commended the participating schools for involving themselves in the competition, emphasising that although some schools scored more points than others, all the competitors were winners in their own right, as they all acquired more knowledge as a result of their participation.
Mrs. McKenzie said the club was extremely proud to have been able to sponsor the competition, and that every effort would be made to increase the number of participating schools next year.
