Wigton Wind Farm Training Open to All

Wigton Wind Farm photovoltaic system design training being held from June 18 to June 22 is open to anyone.

Training Coordinator/Engineer at Wigton Wind Farm, in Manchester, Sanja Simmonds, speaking at a JIS ‘Think Tank’, recently, said that for the course, it would be good if the trainees had some previous experience.

However, he explained that it was actually designed “so that the layman could come in, have no idea what a photovoltaic is, but be able to go out and do a full installation by himself when he finishes the five days of training”.

He said that the course will cover aspects of photovoltaic, including the angling, orientation and mounting of the panels, a trouble area for many persons.

Mr. Simmonds pointed out that the panels are generally designed to stay on roofs during hurricanes, sustaining no damage if installed correctly, which persons should learn with the training.

The Coordinator shared that for the wind and hydro aspect of the training, Wigton teaches persons how to do a wind resource assessment. “We will show people how to analyse wind data,” he said.

Project Manager at Wigton Wind Farm, Michelle Chin-Lenn, said that in addition to the specifics of the course, participants will get the understanding of what the technology is and how it works.

She highlighted that the trainers for the programme teach at local tertiary institutions and were all trained through the Renewables Academy Germany (RENAC), through a train-the-trainer programme.

The five-day course is available for $90,000.00.

Additionally, the wind farm offers customised group courses with varying durations.

Wigton Wind Farm Limited opened its Renewable Energy Training Lab in Rose Hill Manchester in November 2016.

Training in wind, solar, hydro, bioenergy, energy efficiency and energy management is currently offered.
