The Full Story

Wigton Renewable Energy Training Laboratory is offering a three-day certification course in wind and hydro systems from July 12 to 14.

The deadline for registration is June 30.

The training is targeted at renewable energy service providers, technicians, energy enthusiasts, educators and students, and persons interested in entering or enhancing their knowledge of the evolving energy industry.

“As we continue to see an increase in the use of renewable energy on a national level, there will be a growing demand for trained professionals in the sector,” General Manager of Wigton Windfarm, Earl Barrett, told JIS News.

He said the training being offered will equip engineers, technicians, installers and other service providers to develop or enhance their skills to take advantage of the employment and business opportunities that will arise.

The course will consist of four modules, inclusive of the types and components of turbines used at energy facilities operating in Jamaica; wind turbine installations; hydro simulations and the assessment of wind and hydro resources.

Germany, Renewables Academy (RENAC)-trained lecturers Andrew Johnson, Tara-Sue Rhoden and Lawrence Kirby, as well as Wigton Training Coordinator and Engineer, Sanja A. Simmonds, will undertake the training and the assessment.
