WHRA Receives 4 New Ambulances

Four new Mercedes Benz ambulances have been added to the fleet within the Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA), bringing the number of functional ambulances in the region to 15.
The new ambulances are from 12 recently received by the Ministry of Health, from an order of 22 units.
Public Relations and Access to Information Officer with the WRHA, Clinton Pickering, said that an additional three new ambulances would be delivered to the WRHA, when the remaining 10 vehicles were delivered to the Ministry.
The allocation of the new ambulances will see one each being assigned to the Savanna-la-mar Hospital in Westmorland; Cornwall Regional in St. James; Falmouth Hospital in Trelawny; and Noel Holmes in Hanover. This will bring to six, the number of functional ambulances operating in the parish of Westmoreland, while St. James will have four; Trelawny, three; and Hanover, two.
Savanna-la-mar Hospital will receive one of the remaining three vehicles from the Ministry, while the other two will be assigned to Cornwall Regional.
Meanwhile, in an effort to ensure excellent care of the units, the ambulance drivers within the WRHA recently underwent an intensive defensive driving course, which was administered by a team led by Paul Clementson, head of the Road Safety Unit in the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Works, The majority ambulances workers within the WRHA are trained emergency responders.
