West Kingston Primary Schools Get $180,000 in Educational Materials

Educational materials valued at $180,000 (US$2,000) were on (September 28) handed over to four primary schools in Western Kingston by the Spanish Jamaican Foundation.
Some 400 children from Denham Town, Chetolah Park, St. Anne’s and St. Alban’s primary schools are expected to benefit from the donation of interactive math and literacy games, as well as other advanced and comprehensive teaching material, which will be used in the Ministry of Education’s Enrichment Centre Initiative.
The teaching and learning tools will assist significantly in improving, enhancing and developing the learning capabilities of both under and over achieving students.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at Denham Town Primary, Minister of Education, Hon. Andrew Holness, said the supplies will strengthen the existing teaching mechanisms to improve the performance of pupils, especially those who need special attention.

He thanked the Spanish Jamaican Foundation for the contribution, and expressed gratitude to the organisation’s president, outgoing Spanish Ambassador, Jesus Silva, for his charitable work in Jamaica.
“You will be missed not just in the diplomatic field, but your charitable work has been considerable. On behalf of all Jamaicans, please accept my sincerest thanks for the work that you have done in Jamaica,” Mr. Holness said.
Mr. Silva, in his remarks, encouraged the students and teachers to make good use of the materials that have been provided.
“It will help them and support them in their efforts to study. It is especially timely also that this is happening .when we are trying to normalise the situation in this part of Kingston and the best way of normalising is investing in the future leaders of the country,” he stated.
Established in 2006, the Spanish Jamaican Foundation is a non-profit organisation, comprising representatives of Spanish companies in Jamaica. Its mission is to improve and assist in the development of the country through the promotion of social, cultural, educational, and sporting projects.
