Water Supply Systems for Western St. Mary Communities

State Minister with responsibility for Local Government Reform in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Montague, has said that work is slated to begin in the next two weeks to have piped water in some areas of Western St. Mary that are now without the resource.
Making his contribution to the 2008/09 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (June 24), Mr. Montague said that networks which have not had piped water for 20 years will soon have this basic amenity, as new pipes have been acquired.
He informed that replacement of pipelines in the communities of Over River and Wood Park would begin next month, while the tender was closed for water supply contracts for Wellington, Hunts Town, and Top Pen. He said ground is to be broken in a month’s time, adding that water is life.
Mr. Montague also advised that the Mason Hall water project, worth $110 million, has been approved and will begin this financial year, with completion expected next year.
On another matter, the State Minister pointed out that “four Operation Pride schemes – Eden Park, Boscobel, Huddersfield, and Galina – are being fast tracked, so that poor people can get land to build their homes,” adding that a fifth the Three Hills project will see an additional 200 lots coming on stream soon.
In the meantime, Mr. Montague informed that with regards to health care, a new clinic will be built in Jeffery Town to replace the old Gilbert House.
“In addition, furnishing has been approved.for the new clinic, which was built in Windsor Castle by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF). The rehabilitation plans for the Retreat and Hunts Town clinics have also been approved,” he told the House.
