Water Projects Receive $200 Million

Just over $200 million has been allocated to the National Water Commission (NWC) Rural Water Supply Company Limited, to execute projects during 2012/13.

The allocation, which has been set out in the 2012/13 Estimates of Expenditure, tabled in the House of Representatives on May 10, will see some $10 million going to the NWC to assist the entity in fulfilling administrative and some operational expenses associated with the Rapid Response water project, until the divestment process  for the latter is executed.

The Rural Water Supply Company is slated to receive approximately $193 million to carry out work on a number of water supply schemes.

The provision will enable the entity to meet engineering and project management costs of $83.8 million for the implementation of systems in rural areas.

Additionally, the allocation will facilitate the completion of: ongoing works, totalling $41.6 million; the $27 million islandwide catchment tank rehabilitation and rainwater harvesting project; and comprehensive rural water supply upgrading and repairs, amounting to $22.6 million.
