VSU to Fete Volunteers on June 28

The Victim Support Unit (VSU) of the Ministry of Justice will be feting its 400 volunteers on June 28, at Guardsman Serenity Park in Bushy Park, St. Catherine, as part of its week of activities, which will be held from June 25 to July 1.
Speaking with JIS News, Senior Co-ordinator at the VSU, Reverend Osbourne Bailey said the decision to recognize its volunteers comes as part of the VSU’s yearly Victim Support Week, where special emphasis is placed on the work of the VSU and its volunteers. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Carol Palmer is expected to address them.
“During this week we will highlight the work of the volunteers in the various parishes across the island and their commitment to the functions of the VSU,” he reiterated.
Continuing, he said this year, like the other years, the organization has decided to focus on its volunteers by dedicating a day to officially appreciate their longstanding and unflinching service in the form of a fun day.
He said that the fun day would not only allow volunteers to spend needed time away from the Unit, but would also afford them the opportunity to meet and spend an entire day with fellow participants across the island.
Rev. Osbourne pointed out that the volunteers would receive plaques, citations and certificates of appreciation as well as other tokens.
The Victims Support Unit is charged with the responsibility of assisting victims of crime. Currently the organization has some 400 volunteers who assist in this process.
