Vere Technical High School Salutes Seven Olympians

Seven Olympians were honoured by their alma mater, Vere Technical High School at a ceremony, which was held at the school last week.
Veronica Campbell, Aleen Bailey, Beverley McDonald, Lacena Golding-Clarke, Debbie Ann Paris, Michelle Ballentine, and Michael Blackwood were all presented with plaques of recognition and souvenir dolls for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.”Olympians, you have given your best and you deserve the honour,” Principal of the school, Dr. Henrietta Stewart told the awardees.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Southeast Clarendon, Rudyard Spencer said he joined the rest of the nation in acknowledging the outstanding achievements of the Jamaican athletes in Greece. “On the track, we’re not a third world country, not a developing country, we’re first world, we are best in the world,” he stated.
In her reply on behalf of the Olympians, Veronica Campbell encouraged the students to excel in their various areas of interest. “Set a goal and strive for excellence. Always have self confidence and believe in yourself, because anything you set your mind to, you can do it as long as you work hard,” she said.
