UTECH Enhancement Project to Receive $131.3 Million

The University of Technology (UTech) Enhancement project has been allotted $131.3 million in the 2008/09 Estimates of Expenditure which is now before the House of Representatives, to fund its activities for the new fiscal year.
The project which is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Jamaica, seeks to enhance the university’s capacity to provide quality level education in Jamaica through the expansion and upgrading of its facilities, further development of its staff, and improved sustainability.
Achievements up to January of this year include substantial completion of designs and related documents; preparation in progress to establish the project management unit and the project steering committee; and the review of implementation plans.
Anticipated physical targets for the 2008/09 fiscal year include establishing a project management unit; commencing expansion of the hospitality and tourism management; new administrative offices for the school of business and procurement of the services of a consultant/firm to identify inflow of funds other than tuition fees for the university.
