By: , March 20, 2015

The Full Story

Efforts are continuing at the Riverton City disposal site to extinguish remaining hotspots.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) continues to mobilize the necessary resources to ensure that  on-the-ground operations are sustained into tonight and tomorrow morning.

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) remains active and urges that members of the public continue to observe safety tips released by the ODPEM to minimize their exposure to the effects of the smoke.  Where necessary, medical assistance should be sought.

Tips for Protecting Yourself

  • Avoid undue exposure to the smoke by closing windows and doors.
  • Use a clean wet rag to cover your nose and mouth to minimize the effects of the smoke.
  • The elderly, children and those with respiratory issues should pay particular attention not to expose themselves to the smoke.
