‘Turn Crises into Opportunities’, MMS Boss Urges

June 19, 2009

The Full Story

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Manpower and Maintenance Services (MMS), Audrey Hinchcliffe, is encouraging Jamaicans to find opportunities in the current global economic crisis.
“Great difficulties are linked to great opportunities, so we need to learn how to turn crises into opportunities,” Mrs. Hinchcliffe said.
She was guest speaker at the launch of an information fair, dubbed ‘H.O.P.E. in Recession – Helping Other People Excel’, put on by the Events Management Group of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Jamaica Eastern Campus, on Wednesday (June 17).
“The opportunities are aplenty. Entrepreneurship is a process, and once you look at all that’s going on around you, you will find something to do,” she explained.
Mrs. Hinchcliffe also shared her views on what she termed ‘recession – proof careers.’
“Seek out industries that can withstand recession, even if you are going into your own business. These recession – proof careers include health, education, security and commercial construction projects, events planning, training and event support,” she explained.
Mrs. Hinchcliffe commended the Events Management Group on their efforts, and noted that the fair was timely and relevant and is bound to be well supported. It is scheduled for the Knutsford Court Hotel’s Grand Caribbean Suite on Friday July 3 between 11 a.m and 6 p.m. Admission is free.
Project Manager, Mitzie Burke-Green, explained that the fair is targeting a variety of persons.
“We are targeting persons who are out of jobs, those who have been made redundant, persons who have reduced work hours and also individuals who are seeking training opportunities. In doing this, we will also provide information on education, entrepreneurship, financing and the psychological well being,” she stated.
