January 28, 2005

The Full Story

The Trelawny Association of Volunteers Organisation (TAVO) recently hosted a two-day leadership training seminar at the William Knibb Education Centre in Falmouth, to better prepare service and special organisation leaders for their roles. More than 50 persons attended the two-day seminar, hosted by the umbrella association for volunteer groups in the parish.
At the opening ceremony, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme of Jamaica (UNDP), Juan Carlos Espinola handed over two computers and a printer to the Association.
These he said, were to assist in the continuous work in the development of volunteerism in the Parish. The training was geared towards preparing the leaders for effective governance and planning and covered topics such as leadership and governance; successive and participatory planning; project development and funding; identification of wealth creation opportunities; volunteerism, and the Millennium Development Goals.
Chairman of TAVO, Carlton Gordon told JIS News that the evaluation of the training sessions revealed that information garnered by the participants was well received, motivating TAVO to continue to contribute to the development process.
Noting that the training would be an on going intervention, Mr. Gordon indicated that the next session would see health educators coaching the trainees in First Aid techniques.
He further encouraged the leaders of the various organizations to continue to work in a professional manner so that the parish could experience growth and development.
