The Full Story

The 12th staging of the Jake’s Off-road Triathlon is slated to take place in Treasure Beach on Sunday, April 29 beginning at 7:00 a.m.
All proceeds from the event, which is the main annual fundraiser for the Treasure Beach Foundation (BREDS), will go toward the completion of a multipurpose sports complex and park.
“Through the development of the new complex, we are hoping to introduce what we term ‘community sports tourism,’ informed Founder of BREDS, Jason Henzell. The triathlon comprises a 500 meters swim at Great Bay, followed by a 25- kilometre mountain bike race and a seven kilometre run.
“If you fancy yourself an outdoor sports enthusiast then why not give us a call at 965-3000 or by sending us an email at info@breds.org ,” Mr. Henzell invited, noting that the triathlon has drawn more overseas competitors than in previous years.
Meanwhile, he told JIS News that the proceeds from the annual triathlon have been utilized for the development of the Treasure Beach community.
“We started off with very small ventures such as the painting of the local post office, upgrading of the communications system for fisher folks and training of an emergency response team. Right at this point, we do have an ambulance, which has been working throughout various areas of the parish to assist needy persons,” he informed.
Mr. Henzell said BRED is committed to helping to develop the many talents of the young people who reside in Treasure Beach and thanked the sponsors of the triathlon for their support.
