Transportation Centre Renamed in Honour of Late Councillor

Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar and Chairman of the Westmoreland Parish Council, Delford Morgan, has announced that the Grange Hill Transportation Centre has been renamed ‘The Marcus Whyte Transportation Centre’. The change of name is in honour of the late Councillor, who gave many years of service to the parish.
In paying tribute to Councillor Whyte, Mayor Morgan described him as “principled, yet very accommodating; a truly remarkable person and one who represented a rare and special breed of grass root politician”.
“His demeanor, his style and mannerism had set him apart from the ordinary. Whether you were his political foe or ally, you had to respect him. He had the respect of all persons with whom he had to deal and his passing really brought an end to a life dedicated to service in the political sphere,” he added.
In light of his sterling service, the Mayor said the Westmoreland Parish Council took the decision to honour his memory, by renaming the Grange Hill Transportation Centre. “The sign is already up and we really hope that in this way, this little gesture will perpetuate the memory of the service of this great Jamaican; a simple guy but a stalwart in many respects,” Mayor Morgan told JIS News.
Other members of the Parish Council also described him as one who was always anxious to speak the truth, adding that he was never absent from council meetings.
Mr. Whyte served in the Grange Hill Division for approximately 18 years, and was instrumental in the establishment of the transportation centre.
