The Full Story

The Transport Authority (TA) will launch a rewards programme to encourage best practices in the land transportation system this year.

The programme will recognise public transportation operators, drivers and conductors at the parish and national levels based on the category of their driver’s licence.

Manager, Communication and Customer Service at the Transport Authority, Petra-Kene Williams, told JIS News in an interview that the Authority intends to reward “persons who have consistently met or exceeded the fit and proper standards for operating in the public transportation sector.”

“While we often speak about those who violate the laws, there are persons who are operating in keeping with the (Transport Authority) standards,” she pointed out.

Ms. Williams said that in order to be considered, operators must observe the basic guidelines for operating in the sector, which includes the wearing of uniform, the manner in which the vehicle is operated and the general best practices associated with the sector.

The competition will be launched by June 2016.

The Authority welcomes sponsors and partners with a shared vision of transforming the sector, in keeping with the Vision 2030 National Development Plan, which is to make Jamaica the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business.
