The Full Story

The Westmoreland Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has initiated division-wide professional training for police personnel as part of efforts to strengthen interactions between officers and members of the public.

Operations Officer for the Division, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jordaine Allen, made the disclosure during the monthly meeting of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation, in Savanna-la-Mar, on May 14.

DSP Allen said the training sessions, which commenced on Monday (May 18), will focus heavily on professionalism, ethical conduct and police-public interaction.

He explained that the training initiative forms part of the division’s ongoing efforts to reinforce professional standards among members of the force.

“As an organisation, we stand on the motto of professionalism. Even the Commissioner of Police did highlight in the Force Orders in the past weeks, how we want our officers to operate and to treat members of the public in a professional manner,” DSP Allen said.

He noted that police personnel are regularly reminded during briefings, station lectures and meetings about the importance of ethical and respectful conduct.

“We continue to ensure that during briefings, station lectures and meetings, we instruct the police officers to be professional, ethical and corrupt-free in their actions,” he added.

DSP Allen also cited the Police Public Interaction Policy, which outlines how officers should engage members of the public.

“We will reiterate these points to them to ensure that they treat members of the public with utmost respect and professionalism,” he said.

The senior officer said he welcomes support from stakeholders and professionals who may be willing to assist with the training sessions.

DSP Allen emphasised that professionalism remains a priority for the division, as it seeks to strengthen public trust and maintain positive relationships with residents.

He noted that maintaining respectful engagement with citizens is critical to effective policing and improved community cooperation.

DSP Allen also reiterated the division’s commitment to accountability and service excellence.
