The Full Story

Tractor and heavy duty equipment operators are being encouraged to take part in the Tractor and Maintenance Programme offered by the Jamaica 4-H Clubs, at the Denbigh Training Centre, in Clarendon.
Speaking with JIS News, Field Services Co-ordinator for the 4-H Clubs, Central Region, Mrs. Edith Wiggon, said that although the operators have been engaged in the sector for years, it is important for them to be certified.
“The market is wide open and the programme is not only for the Caribbean, but also international. You might be working with a company here, and is called up to go to England to choose a tractor,” she said, noting that the certification is a HEART Trust/NTA approved instrument, which is accepted internationally.
She pointed out that the last batch of trainees received high marks from their assessors.
“The programme is about giving a new lease on life to those who would have graduated from Grade 9 and other levels, and have not made it and are desirous of getting a skill; and those in the community who might be young parents and need to improve their lives,” Mrs. Wiggon said.
The centre also offers training in food preparation. Application forms are available at the centre.
