Town and Country Planning Project Receives $12 Million

Just over $12 million has been earmarked in the 2012/13 Estimates of Expenditure, to effect activities related to town and country planning, and policy development, this year.

Under Sub Programme 21, being implemented by the Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, just over $5 million has been allocated to do upgrading of the National Physical Plan. The allocation will facilitate a regional consultation workshop as well as assist in preparing the draft National Settlement Strategy.

Sub Programme 22 entails a development planning project, for which $7 million has been earmarked to cover operating expenses associated with the preparation of development plans for St. Elizabeth and Clarendon.

Meanwhile, $11.5 million has also been earmarked in this year’s budget to facilitate the establishment of a Climate Change Unit in the Meterological Division, which will represent the focal point for climate change activities.
