The Full Story

Tower Isle Frozen Foods, a Jamaican patty making company in Brooklyn New York, has donated a cheque for US$6,000 to the Hurricane Ivan reconstruction effort.
Company president Beryl Joy Levi presented the cheque to Dr. Basil K. Bryan, Consul General to New York, at the company’s headquarters in Brooklyn on December 15.
Ms. Levi said she was happy to be in a position to offer assistance. “It is indeed a heartfelt pleasure to be able to help my fellow Jamaicans, who survived the terror of Hurricane Ivan. We are indeed grateful and truly blessed that we here at Tower Isle are able to contribute this small amount to help. Use it wisely as a gift from God through us,” she stated.
In expressing thanks, Dr. Bryan said that he was heartened by such acts of kindness and generosity. “It is gratifying to know that there are so many good and generous people in our community, who are constantly seeking ways to become involved and make a difference.
Members of the Diaspora have risen to the challenge and on behalf of a grateful nation, I am proud to acknowledge the support to our efforts,” he stated.
Already, the Consulate has raised close to US$50,000 towards the reconstruction effort, which has been passed on to the Office of National Reconstruction (ONR). In addition, there has been the donation of emergency relief supplies.
Dr. Bryan expressed gratitude to the many individuals, organizations and businesses that contributed to the Fund and the 12 New York Fire Department station-houses, the shipping and freight companies and cargo lines as well as the Hurricane Relief Task Force for going “over and above the call of duty.”
