The Full Story

The St. Ann Chamber of Commerce has called on all players in the tourism industry in the parish, to work with the Chamber to develop a common vision for cruise shipping in Ocho Rios.
This appeal comes from the Chamber in its capacity as the official body recognized by the Port Authority of Jamaica to be the main point of contact for the private sector on cruise shipping issues.
At a recent press briefing in Ocho Rios, President of the Chamber, Pauline Haughton pointed out that the common vision should include seeking to maximize the potential benefits of cruise shipping to the local hotels and other sectors.
“Passengers should be able to enjoy the best possible experience once they come ashore, and as part of this common vision we seek to work assiduously with the relevant authorities to ensure this,” she said.
She pointed out that the Chamber, in broadening the objectives of the organization, would be liaising with cruise line representatives to get their feedback.
Mrs. Haughton noted that the information gathered would be disseminated to members of the Chamber and all parties involved in tourism development in the area.
She explained that the overall objective of the initiative would be to showcase Ocho Rios as “the attraction capital of the Caribbean”, ensuring transparent and healthy competition and providing a clear understanding of all aspects of business relating to the cruise shipping industry.
Mrs. Haughton called on the public to support members of the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce as they sought to develop the industry in the parish.
