Sharon Pajunen and Mark Williams of Toronto, Canada are winners of the Jamaica Dream Vacation contest, which was sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), Air Canada Vacations, and Couples Resorts.
The two beat out more than 107,000 hopefuls to win the contest, which was featured in the November 2005 issue of Chatelaine Magazine, one of Canada’s leading women’s publications.
Readers were asked to submit their names by post or e-mail by January 31, 2006, for a chance to “enjoy a little slice of paradise in Jamaica” and “sip on a tall drink while savouring luxurious beaches, cool clear waters, beautiful sites and unbeatable Jamaican cuisine.”
The JTB’s Regional Director for Canada, Sandra Scott, said she was pleased with the overwhelming response to the contest.
“It just goes to show how popular a destination Jamaica is and how Canadians love our country because of all that it has to offer,” she remarked.
Last year, more than 117,000 Canadians visited the island, the highest number of visitors ever from that country.
The winners, who have been married for 10 years, will spend one-week at Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios, with free excursions to Dunns River Falls, horseback riding, and a catamaran cruise. They have also received a digital camera courtesy of Rogers Media.
The couple said they were surprised and ecstatic when they learnt that they had won and were looking forward to their upcoming trip to the island.
