May 29, 2010

The Full Story

Colonel General Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force, Rocky Meade, has expressed gratitude to the residents of Tivoli Gardens for their cooperation during the ongoing joint police/military operation in the community.
“For the most part, we have cooperation and such cooperation allows us to get our jobs done more quickly and facilitates us returning the community to normality as quickly as possible,” he said at a press briefing held yesterday (May 28) at Up Park Camp.
Colonel Meade further requested the support of citizens in providing information on any explosives or other weapons in their community.
During the operation, which resulted in 73 deaths, more than 900 persons were detained, the majority of whom have since been released.
The police have said that of the detained persons, many were not from the community and checks were made with police divisions outside of Kingston and St. Andrew, to see whether they are wanted.
