Three-Day Atlanta-Jamaica Business Exchange

Mayor of Atlanta, Shirley Franklin, has announced a three-day Atlanta-Jamaica Business Exchange, which would be held at the Hilton Hotel Downtown, from Wednesday, October 15 to Friday, October 17. The Mission, which was conceived during Mayor Franklin’s visit to Jamaica in June of this year, will focus on strengthening the Atlanta-Jamaica relationship by partnering Atlanta companies with Jamaican businesses and development agencies.
“On my June visit to Jamaica, I was particularly struck by the compatible business interests shared between the city of Atlanta and Jamaica. I believe this trade mission will be of benefit to us both, and be a first step in opening doors for increased business opportunities in the future,” Mayor Franklin said.
The mission will allow Atlanta based companies to meet and develop business relationships with similar Jamaican business interests and will demonstrate to senior Jamaican officials that Atlanta is a gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America. The three-day event will begin on October 15 with a reception at the Hilton Hotel Downtown, featuring a welcoming address by Mayor Franklin.
The mission, organized by Jamaica’s economic development agency, JAMPRO, and private sector organizations, and sponsored by the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo), will be led by Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, Minister of Industry and Tourism.
Atlanta organizations co-sponsoring the event include the Mayor’s Office, the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. Also participating are the Southern Centre for International Studies and the World Trade Centre in Atlanta.
Also expected in the Jamaican delegation are Minister of National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips; Patricia Francis, President of JAMPRO, and a number of prominent business and government leaders.
