Thousands Attend Tree-Lighting Ceremony in Mo-Bay

Thousands of persons from across Montego Bay and its environs converged on Sam Sharpe Square last night (December 18), to participate in the Municipal Christmas tree lighting ceremony and concert, put on by the St. James Parish Council.
Bringing greetings to the large gathering, Custos of St. James, Clarence Nelson called on all citizens to enjoy the season in the spirit it was intended to be enjoyed, always mindful of the many blessings from God.
“Let us all enjoy the Christmas season, and never leave Christ out of it. Keep Christ at all times in this season and let us be good to one another . let this be a peaceful and joyful Christmas,” Custos Nelson urged.
Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Noel Donaldson, in his address, called on all to embrace and celebrate this time of peace.
“The St. James Parish Council wish for all citizens a peaceful and safe Christmas. We want you all to recognize that this is a holy period and therefore we want you to make this a time of peace and goodwill … It is critically important that we show love to each other during and after this season,” Mayor Donaldson said.
Pastor of the Webster Memorial Baptist Church, Reverend Godfrey Francis, told the gathering that Jesus, God’s gift to mankind, was available to all people and not just to some.
“Jesus came to all and for all people and so there is nobody who can argue that they cannot reach Jesus and there is nobody who can argue that they cannot be reached by Jesus, because he is available to all,” Rev. Francis pointed out.
The large crowd was entertained by gospel performers, followed by the Rising Star finalists, Nickeisha Barnes and One Third.
