The Full Story

With the implementation of the new income tax threshold on July 1, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it will continue to stage sensitisation sessions to help persons understand the changes that have taken place.

“The legislative changes, you will appreciate, have just come into effect to give rise to the changes, but we have been working with persons so that they have a full understanding,” said Chief Corporate Communications Officer at TAJ, Meris Haughton.

“We have teams of taxpayer education officers as well as client relationship managers, who work with our large taxpayers so that we can have as smooth as possible a change in the system,” she added, while addressing a recent JIS Think Tank.

The income tax threshold has been increased from $592,800 to $1,000,272.

In addition to the sensitisation sessions, Ms. Haughton informed that TAJ has created guidance notes to assist accountants and payroll software developers. These notes, along with other relevant publications are available on TAJ’s website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.

Members of the public are also invited to call TAJ’s customer centre at 1-888-tax help (829-4357) for information.

Miss Haughton said that the TAJ “stands ready to support and will continue to support employers, businesses and any individual, who wish to get additional information”.
