Strong Families Critical for Unity of Jamaica – PM

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, says that maintaining strong families is critical in building communities and uniting the country.

“Strong families make strong communities and strong communities build a strong nation. All Jamaicans should remember that no matter our social or economic status, no matter our religion or political persuasion, we are Jamaicans first,” the Prime Minister said.

She was addressing the 11^th Annual National Heal the Family, Heal the Nation Service held today (January 6),  at the National Arena in Kingston.

Thousands of worshippers came together in prayer for the unity of the nation and the strengthening of Jamaican families.

During the service, hosted by the Power of Faith Ministries and the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches (JUGC), Mrs. Simpson Miller said the Government continues to seek God’s wisdom and guidance in the administration of the affairs of the nation.

“We believe in the power of God to forgive, to heal and to restore. That is why we are here today, for the restoration of families and the nation. With His help, we look to the future with confidence and faith,” she said.

Mrs. Simpson Miller expressed gratitude to the members of the clergy and the congregation, which included State and political leaders and civic leaders, for their prayerful intercession.

She noted that she is thankful to God for His involvement in the affairs of the country and “for the hope of national renewal.”

Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Holness, hailed the organisers of the service, noting that the spiritual energy from the gathering has the potential to change the direction of the country and lead to the blessing of Jamaican homes, families, communities and the nation.

“This is a great way to start the New Year, to set the tone for partnership, peace, progress and prosperity in our land and it all starts with the blessing of the family,” he said.
