STATEMENT FROM THE HONOURABLE OLIVIA GRANGE, MINISTER OF INFORMATION, CULTURE, YOUTH AND SPORTS CONGRATULATING THE SUNSHINE GIRLS

I am delighted to see that our netballers have shone so brightly once again defending the AFNA Championships which concluded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on the week-end.
The fact that the Sunshine Girls won all matches en route to retaining the crown has reinforced Jamaica’s dominance in the sport of Netball in the region.
Special acknowledgement must be made of Head Coach, Connie Francis, who has comfortably made the transition from player to coach. She has done a tremendous job with the girls.
I particularly liked the idea of playing members of the Under 21 Team, giving them valuable exposure for upcoming major international tournaments.
Netball is clearly Jamaica’s best team sport reiterated by the consistent excellent results produced by the Sunshine Girls. We have excellent feeder programmes organized by the Jamaica Netball Association and INSPORTS throughout the school system and in the communities to ensure the future of the sport.
On behalf of my Ministry, (MICYS), I salute the Sunshine Girls led by Co-captains Nadine Bryan and the somewhat ubiquitous Simone Forbes. I know that even as you savour this victory, your plan is to take Jamaica to the top of the world.
