Cabinet has given its approval for the awarding of a contract valued at $18.4 million, for the supply, installation and commissioning of a standby generator for the Logwood Treatment Plant in Hanover. The contract for the project has been awarded to Arima Engineering Limited.
< Minister of Information and Development, Hon. Donald Buchanan made the announcement yesterday (November 13), at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House. Mr. Buchanan emphasized that the project was necessary, "because in the instance when there is a public energy failure, when the public power supply fails, there is great inconvenience not only to the citizens and communities in that area, but also to the general tourism product in that area". "The National Water commission (NWC), has now found it necessary to put in this standby generator, so that there will be an assurance of continuous water supply to the general Negril area, irrespective of whether the public power supply is up and running or not," the Minister said.
