The Full Story

Representation is to be made at the next sitting of the St. Catherine Parish Council, to have several roadways in the hilly interior of the parish, which have suffered from significant breakaways following the passage of storms and heavy rainfall, repaired.

Miss Buchanan pointed out that she is well aware that the Ministry of Transport and Works was already facing a large bill for road repair and improvement works but noted that, “we’re definitely going to be lobbying for some changes because sometimes there are issues that are brought there that sometimes gets left along the roadside but having seen all that is happening in this division there is some need for urgency and we intend to take this path”.
Deputy Mayor of the St. Catherine Parish Council Owen Palmer, acknowledge the poor state of some of the roads and pointed out that the Council would have to lobby central Government for assistance as the extent of the damage was beyond the budget of the Council.
Councillor for the Mount Industry Division Michelle Jackson, at whose invitation the tour was conducted said it was a very good “first step” and that she was happy that some attention was going to be given to the roads.
The Disaster Committee Chairman was accompanied on the tour by representatives from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health and members of the Disaster Relief departments of the St. Catherine Parish Council.
