The St. Ann branch of the Jamaica Red Cross is the beneficiary of a refurbished ambulance, courtesy of St. Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners (SAJBP).
The unit was officially handed over to the branch on July 13, at a ceremony held at the SAJBP in Discovery Bay.
“We believe that healthcare is essential and it is of paramount importance in Jamaica, so we are making our contribution felt at the grass roots level, so that is why we considered the St. Ann Red Cross to be the beneficiary of this ambulance,” Public and Community Relations Officer at SAJBP, Winston Watson, said at the handing over ceremony.
In addition, Human Resource Manager at the company, Nelson Barton, said that they were pleased to present the ambulance to the St. Ann Red Cross.
“What would make us very pleased is if this ambulance could be used to make a contribution to saving the life of even one sick person and that would make us feel that this gesture was well worth the effort,” Mr. Barton said, stressing that the SAJBP would continue to remain committed to safety, healthcare and community development.
Meanwhile, Vice President of the Jamaica Red Cross, Martin Gooden, said that the donation of the ambulance is a demonstration of a longstanding relationship between the SAJBP and the St. Ann branch of the Jamaica Red Cross.
“When we receive substantial gifts like this, especially in times like now, when we know that the global economic crisis has affected the bauxite industry, and would have affected this company…we will keep it in good condition and we will carry out your mandate to ensure that we meet the needs of those persons who really need the ambulance’s services,” Mr. Gooden said.
He thanked the company for helping the St. Ann branch of the Jamaica Red Cross to meet their humanitarian obligations to the people that they serve.
