St. Ann Infirmary to be Upgraded on Labour Day

The St. Ann Infirmary, located in Priory, has been selected as the parish Labour Day project and will be receiving upgrading and refurbishing work on May 23.

In an interview with JIS News, Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Councillor Desmond Gilmore, said the work to be done at the institution will include painting of the walls and bathroom facilities, replacing tiles and bushing of the compound. The Mayor further said the infirmary fits with the national theme: ‘Lend a Hand…Build our Land’.

“We are working with the vulnerable, and it is really worthwhile doing something at the infirmary. I know that the people of St. Ann are socially conscious and would want to partner with us in our Labour Day projects, so we are inviting organisations and individuals to contact us at the St. Ann Parish Council,” he said.

The Mayor informed that several business entities have come on board to provide support for the Labour Day projects in the parish. In addition to the parish project, organisations and civic groups in the parish will be teaming up to build and improve pedestrian crossings along roadways to protect children and other vulnerable citizens, and will also be doing work on community spaces and educational institutions.

He appealed for persons to give support to the work at the infirmary, noting that the residents there must receive the best care as they have given to the society, and are now at a point where proper care must be provided for them.

For her part, Matron at the infirmary, Charmaine Davidson, said the staff and residents deem it an “honour” for the facility to get the attention on Labour Day.

“I am overjoyed with us being chosen, and I am appealing to corporate Jamaica, residents in and around Priory, St. Ann’s Bay, and other areas to come and join with the Parish Council, so that at the end we can have a facility where the residents feel more comfortable,” the Matron said.
