The Full Story

The Honourable Olivia “Babsy” Grange today expressed her “deepest sympathy at the passing of Matthew Hilton who had the distinction of being the only Jamaican to make the National Swim Team moving from the primary school level.”
Minister Grange said she was shocked to hear that 18-year-old Matthew, who started Upper 6th Ardenne High School this September, died while at training at the YMCA pool last night.
“It will always be pleasing for us to remember that Matthew, who started swimming while attending Excelsior Primary School, swam his way right up to the national level where he represented Jamaica at the CARIFTA Games, establishing himself as a breast stroke specialist,” Miss Grange said.
Miss Grange said Matthew had also demonstrated quite clearly how seriously he took his school work having gained distinctions and credits in eight CXC subjects and moving to Sixth Form. “It is so sad that that he did not live to be the pilot he wanted to become.”
On behalf of the Government, Minister Grange extended condolences to Matthew’s family.
