Sports Minister Congratulates Jamaica’ S Sunshine Girls on Winning Bronze at World Netball Championships

Sports Minister, Hon. Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange has sent congratulations to Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls Netball Team for bringing home the bronze medal in the New World Netball World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand today (Nov 17)
Jamaica came out the winner over England, 53-52 in with what has been described as a combination of flair and clever playmaking skills, to cement the bronze medal in the competition which ran from November 10-17. Australia were the gold medal winners.
In her congratulatory message to the Jamaican team, Miss Grange said special commendation must go to Simone Forbes who took over the Captaincy from Elaine Davis and who paved the way for young, Romelda Aiken to score the goals that put the English team on the backburner. Davis received injuries earlier and had to bow out of the game, passing the baton to a more than able Simone Forbes.
‘This is what team effort is all about. That fighting spirit of togetherness, composure, athletic prowess- these are the qualities that typify the strength and determination of our Jamaican athletes. In everything we do, we strive to excel, to be the best and even though we may not come out with the gold at first, we know that the determination is there to go the extra mile, to achieve the ultimate victory next time round’, Miss Grange said.
‘While we congratulate the players, let us not forget the important role of those who lead because it is the leadership that helps to determine the final performance’. Miss Grange has sent a special congratulatory note to Jamaica Netball Association’s President, Marva Bernard, for taking the team this far.
‘Through your hard work, the girls have shown that with more encouragement, assistance and financial support , Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls will definitely take home the gold, next time’, Minister Grange concluded.
