Mr President,

I had the honour to lead Jamaica’s delegation to the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which commenced with a high-level segment at the UN Headquarters in New York from 22nd – 30th September 2014.

This is the second sitting of the Senate since my return from New York, and I am now pleased to report on the major initiatives and outcome of Jamaica’s participation in the High-Level Session.

Honourable Robert D. As is customary every year at the UN, I also attended meetings of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth, the Group of 77 and China, the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) and CARICOM.

I also participated in a ceremony to symbolically receive contributions by some members of the international community to the Trust Fund for the construction of the Permanent Memorial to honour the victims of Slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

Bilateral meetings were also held with a number of countries from various geographical regions to discuss with key bilateral partners, ways in which to advance Jamaica’s foreign policy priorities and interests, and to lobby for Jamaica’s candidatures.

I also signed Joint Communiqués with the Foreign Ministers of Andorra and Timor Leste on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and these countries…READ MORE
