Spanish Ambassador Pledges to Link Hotels with Farmers

Spanish Ambassador to Jamaica, Jesus Silva, has pledged his Embassy’s full commitment to linking the investors of new Spanish Hotels being constructed in Jamaica, with the local farming community.
“I think that with the help of the farmers, the hotels are going to succeed, and with the help of the hotels, the farmers are also going to increase their production and have some reliable clients,” he said.
Ambassador Silva was delivering an address at the opening of the Montpelier Agricultural and Industrial show, held in Montpelier, St. James on Monday, April 9.
The Ambassador described farming as one of the most honourable activities of mankind, adding that his admiration for the Jamaican farming community has grown extensively in recent weeks, after observing how much work had to be done by the farmers. Mr. Silva said that Spanish investments in the tourism sector would bring great benefits to Jamaica, inclusive of job creation and a need for local products. Farming and hotels go well together, he added.
The Ambassador pointed out that the Spanish investors in the hotels were keen to establish contacts with the farming community in Jamaica, and to offer the many Jamaican products.
He said that in his discussions with persons within the farming sector, there was an eagerness to establish contacts with the principals of the hotels.
“For us at the embassy, our duty and our work will be to put people together and let them work together,” the Ambassador said.
Despite the heavy rainfall throughout the day, thousands of patrons turned out for the show, which was held under the theme ‘Grow our fortune through agriculture – eat Jamaican’.
